Couroc

1940s/1950s

USA

Lovely satin black resin tray inlaid with a mosaic pattern of brass and enamel in the shape of a fish.  Hand inlaid by master craftsmen, shells, coins, woods and metals are fused into Couroc's famous satin black material, which is impervious to alcohol, boiling water and cigarette burns. Wear consistent with age and use.

Couroc was started in 1948 in Monterey, CA by husband and wife Guthrie Courvoisier and Moira Wallace. Courvoisier developed a secret formula for phenolic resin which was used to make the black plastic trays. The company continued until the early '90's.
