La Murrina

La Murrina

La Murrina Fornace was a small glass factory on the island of Murano, Italy started by a group of master glassblowers 1968.  In 1974, it was bought by an industrialist family from Milan.  Pairing their experience of combining glass with metal to create light fixtures with the ancient skills of Murano glass makers allowed La Murrina to create an innovative lighting line.  In the early 1980s La Murrina opened its first flagship stores in Rome and Milan.

Still to this day they continue to make each piece by hand. The main factory is located in Turate where the pieces are assembled, while the glass components are still produced on the island of Murano.  La Murrina has collaborated with some of the top European designers and architects, such as Ettore Sottsas, Dorian & Massimiliano Fuksas, Marcello Albini, Mattheo Thun, Antonio Rodriguez, Paolo Deganello, Oscar Tsquets Blanca and Karim Rashid.
