Marco Dessí
Marco Dessí (1976-) was born in Merano, Italy and studied Industrial Design at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst (School of Applied Arts) in Vienna, Austria. While there some of his projects began to draw international interest since his work showcased design as an interactive process. Experimenting with new ideas and materials, the young designer was quickly inventing new processes and creating new techniques, which he would then apply to commercial and industrial projects. Dessí is not committed to any particular style, preferred material or unified formula, but rather regards design as a trade characterized by a deep understanding of materials, processes and how the two are linked. The way in which an object is produced has a direct influence over its aesthetic appearance and the story that it tells. In his work, Dessí values transparency in terms of a consistent link between the process of designing and the actual conditions of production.
In 2008, Dessí founded his own multi-disciplinary design studio in Vienna. Since its inception, Marco Dessí’s Studio has worked with multiple well-known Viennese manufacturers such as Lobmeyr, Augarten Porcelain and Wittmann, as well as international manufacturers like Skitch, Tobeus and Okolo.
