Augarten

Augarten

Augarten Porzellan is Europe’s second oldest porcelain manufacturer founded in 1718 Vienna, Austria. Every single piece of porcelain has been carefully handcrafted at the Augarten Palace in the heart of Vienna. In 1744 the factory was taken under Imperial ownership by Empress Maria Theresia, which earned it the blue-striped shield from the coat of arms of the Dukes of Austria. During the early 20th century Augarten produced designs by contemporary architects, designers and artists of the Wiener Werkstätte, including Josef Hoffmann, Michael Powolny, Franz von Zülow and Ena Rottenberg. During the 1950s modern and iconic designs typical of the period were created by Margarethe Rader-Soulek, Ursula Klasmann and Elfriede Teufelhart, all of them students of the prominent architect Oswald Haerdtl.

Today Augarten exemplifies a symbiosis between tradition and innovation by continuing to collaborate with contemporary artists and designers such as Gundi Dietz, Thomas Feichtner, Philip Bruni, Gottfried Palatin and Gabriele Rothemann. Since the beginning Augarten porcelain continues to be made and painted by hand. Each piece is unique and its timeless design and exceptional quality makes it an heirloom to be treasured for generations
